My Go-To Sourdough Baking Tools
I’ve compiled a list of my go-to sourdough baking tools. Simple, straight forward, uncomplicated.
When I first started baking sourdough bread, I thought I needed every sourdough tool, every type of basket and every kind of whisk on the market in order to have excellent bread. With time, I have found myself putting those “trendy tools” to the side and just sticking with the ones that work.
I’ve compiled a couple different lists of items I personally use each week and highly recommend:
The Classics - this list includes the items I use on a daily basis. I’d get them for a new sourdough baker who is just starting out, or even a seasoned baker who needs more supplies. These are the classics. Simple and useful.
Advanced - this list is for a seasoned baker who is ready to take a few risks and try new things. You’ll enjoy what these tools can bring to your bakes.
For a list to all the items I use in my microbakery, check out my Amazon Storefront. I only list things that I personally use on a regular basis.
The Classics
Weck Glass Jar
High quality jars with a glass top. I keep my starter in one and my discard in the other.
Bread Knife
This is the BEST bread knife and it’s so affordable! This is a must.
Silicone Gloves
Hold your bread! These gloves are easy to use for removing the dutch oven as well as handling hot bread.
Kitchen Scale
The best way to get consistent measurements is with a kitchen scale.
Rattan Bannetons
I recommend getting these bannetons that include cloth inserts (and they come with a plastic bowl scraper!) They’re easy to clean and last for years and years.
Dutch Oven
A cast iron Dutch oven will give you a even bake. It is sturdy and made to last. The flat top on this one makes storage easy too.
Thermometer
A consistent thermometer for taking the temperature of your dough during fermentation.
Bread Lame
Scoring bread with this bread lame is easy and quick. Easy to hold and easy to change the blade.
Advanced Supplies
Detail Scissors
Intricate designs are just a touch away with these embroidery scissors.
The Perfect Loaf
My go-to book for all things from sourdough starter maintenance to milling flour to unique recipes!
Pulp Bannetons
These upcycled pulp bannetons are easy to stack and easy to use. They are my go-to for consistent loaves.
KoMo Flour Mill
Fresh milled flour is next level. It’s more nutritious, tasty, and easily digested. This stone mill is built for success.
